About that Life-Work Balance

Or, more like – About that Work-Take care of children-Clean-Cook-Do laundry-Workout-Sleep-Find time for friendships-Have a hobby-Do self care Balance?

Isn’t  just reading that EXHAUSTING?

In a world were free time is very scarce, especially if you find yourself in a situation where not only do you have to work full-time, but you also come home to make sure your children, spouse, pets, and even plants are taken care of, well… no wonder there is so much burnout out there!

And, on top of that, we have to make time to be active and cook healthy meals?

It’s interesting how making time for our health and well-being sometimes seems so… daunting. And, let’s be real, sometimes not even that important when compared to the rest of the demands we have in our lives. But let me ask you one thing:

If you don’t take care of yourself, who will care for you?

We can’t expect to put that responsibility on our friends (who might just be going through the same struggle), our parents (because were grown adults and they shouldn’t have to anymore), our spouses or partners (who also have to find ways to keep themselves healthy), or even our children (who depend on us). So, what can we do?

Well… first of all, start small! Finding one little thing in your life that you can change into a better habit, or a better choice, will not only be the best place to start, but it will also do wonders to help with your confidence and ability to tackle bigger problems later on. How about putting your alarm clock 15 minutes earlier so that you make the time to do a quick stretch? How about adding an alarm on your phone that will remind you every hour or two to stand up and walk around for a couple of minutes?

You could also make this a joint effort! Now that you are aware that others might be going through the same though process as you are – how about finding ways to make better choices together? Instead of meeting for coffee with your friend, how about you go for a walk instead? And your spouse, the one who is also looking for their own was to be healthy, can help you prep some food one day in the evening. Why not make it a family thing? The kids could even help!

Change doesn’t have to be huge, and it should certainly start small and consistent in order to become sustainable and long-term.

That is also why I am here! We can work together to make sure you are addressing the right issues, and you are taking the most appropriate steps to ensure your results align with your priorities and lifestyle. If you work with me, it will not be about forcing your to do workouts or make sure you eat a certain way, but rather it will about about changing your behavior, mindset, habits, and actions to make sure you reach those results organically and without stress.

Finding the things that will help you the most to achieve your long-term goals and sticking to them is a priority!

For me? Ok, for my anal-retentive personality? I need to schedule things to be able to keep my concentration, motivation, and accountability in check. It might be a bit excessive to some, but for me it works!  This is what my daily planner looks like:

I schedule my workouts, my work, my cleaning, and I keep track of the habits I want to ensure I complete each day. It keeps me focused and a bit relaxed about my busy days, to be honest. I could go further and even schedule the times that I cook, but I think THAT would be excessive… hah!.

So tell me, what do you do, or what do you think you could do, to make sure you make time to be more healthy, more active, or eat better? What would work for you?
